My business received a negative review. What can I do?
While the vast majority of our reviews are positive, this is not always the case. We realize that it's hard to hear that someone doesn't like what you are offering but it's important that you handle the negative review properly or risk causing more harm. Here are some things that you should NOT do when you receive a poor review.
DON'T overestimate the impact of a negative review. It happens to everyone and users expect companies to have bad reviews. If you have nothing but positive reviews users think something is wrong believe it or not.
DON'T be argumentative. This usually just causes more attention to be given to the negative review.
DO message your customers privately. Thank your customers for writing about your business but try not to sound defensive.
I'm considering legal action. What are the precedents here?
Before you decide to sue experiencegenie, you should keep in mind that experiencegenie is just a forum where people can post their opinions. A recent case on this issue, Zeran v. AOL, 129 F. 3 327, 330 (4th Cir. 1997), states: "By its plain language, § 230 creates a federal immunity to any cause of action that would make service providers liable for information originating with a third-party user of the service."
